New Jersey Early Intervention Week May 18-24, 2008
The Family Support Committee of the State Interagency Coordinating Council (SICC) met with
the Family Support Coordinators of each regional early intervention collaborative (REIC) on
January 25 to discuss plans to commemorate New Jersey Early Intervention Week 2008.
Each REIC is planning and developing events to occur during this week in observance of the
proclamation recognizing Early Intervention that was signed by Governor Corzine last year.
The REICs are sponsoring an essay contest for families/caregivers residing in each respective
region. The rules, judging and prizes may vary per region.
New Jersey Early Intervention Week Overview and Essay Topic
New Jersey Early Intervention Week was created to recognize that all children have special
and unique gifts that deserve the care and attention of their families and communities. The
state recognizes the challenges families face and the courage needed to do so. The state also
recognizes how the New Jersey Early Intervention System (NJEIS) plays an essential role in
supporting families to ensure that all infants and toddlers have the opportunity to develop, grow
and ultimately, lead productive lives in the community.
In that spirit, families and caregivers are asked to compose an essay outlining: What Early
Intervention Has Meant to My Family. Essays should describe the following points:
Describe what has been the most rewarding experience for your child and family as a
part of the New Jersey Early Intervention System?
What tips or strategies have you learned that have helped your childs development?
How has a New Jersey Service Coordinator and/or an NJEIS Provider supported your
family?
NREIC Essay Guidelines
Essays must be at least 250 words in length, however no more than 500 words. Submissions

Jersey early intervention services. Essays must detail the experiences of a child and family
that have received NJEIS services within the past 12 months (March 1, 2007 to present).
