Social Security has an obligation to provide benefits quickly to applicants whose
medical conditions are so serious that their conditions obviously meet disability
standards.  Compassionate allowances are a way of quickly identifying diseases and other
medical conditions that invariably qualify under the Listing of Impairments based on
minimal objective medical information.   www.socialsecurity.gov/compassionateallowances
There will be a Father's Lunch Time Teleconference Thursday, June 18th @ 12 noon
sponsored by NJ Statewide Parent to Parent/Family WRAP (Wisdom, Resources, Advocacy,
& Parent to Parent Support), a program of the Statewide Parent Advocacy Network (SPAN).
Fathers will share with you their personal experiences and their work in helping others who
have children with special needs, as well as facilitate an open discussion about the
important  issues facing fathers today. To participate in the conference, please register by
calling 800-654-SPAN X 116. If you cannot participate on June 18, register and they will
send you the information to listen to the recording at your convenience.
The Down Syndrome Association of Greater Cincinatti has released the following video on
adopting a child with Down Syndrome.  Please take a look and pass it on to friends and
families you know who may be considering adoption.  Also, please circulate to your OB-
GYN so they understand that there are MANY families waiting to adopt children with DS
and this option presents an alternative to termination.  http://www.dogooder.tv/Orgs/

Challenging Behaviors
They can happen anywhere: at home, in a
store, or on a playground. But when the
behavior takes place in a child care center, it
can lead to the child’s expulsion from the
center—which disrupts the child’s
relationships but won’t stop the behavior.
